Besides having a major phobia of dental work, this endodontist that my dentist recommends works on me in a reclining position, which if anyone remembers last time made me dizzy through out the whole procedure. When I was done and walked back into the waiting room to get ready to leave I had that drop attack, if the chairs were not there I would have fallen on the floor, had that strong push from behind and went bam on top of the waiting room chairs. I guess from all the anxiety I go through while being worked on, and the position I was in while he works on me and I had just started taking acyclovir so it wasn't totally suppressing my symptoms yet.

So I am pretty scared about tomorrow but will take 800 mg of acyclovir tomorrow morning, my appt is at 10:30 am and hope and pray I get through it w/o any dizziness or vertigo or drop attack.

You know I never in a million years thought anything would suck as much as dental work... until I got this freaking monster of a disease. Best wishes for a wonderful experience tomorrow!

You're in much better shape now, you'll be fine. But it's still a root canal - yuck :)

I also wonder about when i have to go to the dentist now, I am concerned about all the drilling and anesthesia close to the meinere's area...anyway, good luck and hope it goes smoothly.

Story about how much I hate dentistry. The military had to force me to see the dentist by escorting me there with military police. I wouldn't go voluntarily. It took nine hours (excluding an hour lunch break) two surgeons, three assistants and countless drill bits to finish my work. They did it all in one day and I was given ibuprophin for pain and returned to work the next day. Needless to say I still hate dental work but I learned my lesson and do my cleanings every 4 months instead of every 6.

Vicki, do you have any eustachian tube issues? If so, I'm wondering if the open-mouth position may have exacerbated ETD?

Do you have Valium or something similar? I find that would help me. Otherwise will your dentist do the happy gas? That helps too. But stressing out won't help at all, I know easier said than done, but give it a try.
    Good luck with your appt.

I just got back and it was a helluva root canal :( I got called right away and he gave me carbocaine w/o epinephrine after taking an Xray, then he said let's wait til your good and numb..well I sat in that chair for almost an hour waiting for him to come back to start..That was completely nerve racking waiting so long.

He was very kind and tried keeping me in a position I wouldn't get dizzy in. BUT during the procedure I felt a strong pain and they noticed..I made sure..so they injected me again in the tooth itself I believe and again after him doing stuff in there I felt pain, so I got another injection and it felt like it went right into the nerve, I hit the ceiling! They said we know hang in there but we got it this time. I was so shaken by that pain I actually cried a bit.. From then on I had no more pain but was starting to feel a bit light headed, from nerves and position I guess.

He finally finished and filled in the tooth with a temporary filling, then took another Xray to make sure he got it all, I was set to leave, all apparatus out of my mouth etc etc.

Of course..my luck he comes back and say there is just a little piece of nerve left, do you wanna do it now or come back UGH!!

I said now lets do it, it took another 15 minutes and at the end the Xray came back good, all the nerve was removed.

No vertigo Thank God, No drop attack Thank God, but I feel like I been through 2 wars. So glad to be home!!!

There ya go! Glad it went well.

Often times, what we anticipate is a whole lot worse than how it turns out :)

I've been checking back all day to see how it went-sorry it was so bad as far as pain, but how GREAT that even with all that you did not get vertigo!!!!!

Rest and recuperate now-just take it easy! It's all over and you can forget about it.
