Alcohol is not a trigger for me. I usually have one small (5 oz.) glass of red wine a day. Anything more will give me arrhymithia.

My daily dose of beer (for dinner) is not a trigger.

As you can probably tell by the name, I love my wine. It is most definitely not a trigger for me. I have two glasses of wine with dinner every night.

I'm also a social drinker on the weekends. I love to try microbrews. I love my Appleton rum and Cokes. A nice after-dinner glass of Oban (scotch) and a cigar is the perfect end to an evening :)

1-2 glasses of wine a week, sometimes more. It seems to help me cope with the overwhelming tinnitus, but I'm careful not to overdo it. The temptation is there though.

This is for rottierules/ funshine or anyone else that's interested. I rarely drink(due to MM), but I tied one on with a couple of bottles of wine & pizza the other night. Yes I woke a with a hangover, but I also woke up with complete fullness in my ear?? I mentioned to JOH, b/c I've been on the acyclovir and JOH regimen and really noticed a great improvement. Then had this set back..

I was under the impression that if this thing is viral or poor blood circulation in the inner ear, then why would alcohol effect it? Lastly, if anyone did get fullness from alcohol consumption, did it get followed up with dizziness & vertigo, or did the fullness dissipate? Thanks, ben

Imagine that you have mono - a virus - and your liver and spleen are damaged. That damage may go away in a few weeks when the virus is no longer active or it may (usually) takes months to feel 'right' while everything in the body gets back to it's pre-virus state. Sometimes, organs never get completely back to the previrus state. I imagine it to be the same set of options with viral damage to the inner ear.

Ben, personally, I do not drink....I like a really good beer now and then, but I know that it is risky...however, based on your experience, I have a tendency to think that your symptoms of fullness were more related to the pizza!
During my first visit to a specialist, I was told that I could NEVER eat pizza again because I would pay the next day due to the sodium content...I am not saying that the wine is not a trigger, it could be as well, but more to the point, according to my doctors, is the role of sodium as it disrupts the fluid and electrolye balance in the inner ear...

  14. i used to back in the day but not any more - no desire - too afraid now that I have this awful illness :( i used to think it helped a lot of stuff but I guess it doesn't. I used to think that the fun i had when i was young was what caused this but i've talked to lots of folks that never had a drink in their life and still has menieres

I miss letting loose like i used to but there are so many other things in life so it's okay - i just want my health back that's all!!!

It is really shocking how much sodium a single slice of restaurant-prepared pizza can contain. I saw an episode of "The Doctors" recently in which they showed a slice that had something like 4000 mg.

I usually have a couple (maybe a "few" ;D ) of white wines at night over a 3-4 hour peroid, and if friends are over maybe more on the odd occasion...it's not a trigger for me unless I have too much and that only happens once in a blue moon...I know my limits ::)

Salt is also not a trigger for me but I have Immune mediated MM (AIED) and they know even less about that than MM :'( Living in the bush is not conducive to ordering in ;D so pizza's are homemade and I have lots of veges on mine and chicken or meat (cabanosi, salami, ham  now that is a sodium load)

I also take valium once or twice a day depending on my day, but at a 2mg dose it does not cause any issues with the alcohol......I'm not recommending this to anyone but I have been on and off valium for 14 years, mainly on for the past 4-5 years :( I would never be able to have a drinkie if I didn't mix em......bad girl I know ::) ;D ;D

I'd like to but can't. With an alcoholic son (who also has mental health problems) living with us we can't keep any alcohol in the house for ourselves, or he would just hunt it out and drink it. :(

winewench I'm not drunk, I just walk with an accent!

Um, yeah. It's how I make my living. I am a wine industry professional, also a wine judge and writer.

I can only handle one glass now, instead of my customary 1/2 bottle per night. Heck, I've lost over 20 pounds from cutting back on the wine (and occasionally puking my guts out).
    Lush is a GOOD word.
    Sigh.

    Cheers!

Yes, usually only 2-3 beers a week, if I am hanging out with my car buddies, it goes up some. Not a trigger. I wont quit things I enjoy anyway. Ya gotta live, just be smart about it. I have been vertigo free for going on two months with just a couple little dizzy spells thrown in to keep me aware.

I've said before in the thread that I'm a daily wine drinker. While I'm not a "professional" in the winewench sense, I consider myself an expert drinker. :)

Did you drink red wine? It's fairly common for some folks to have their sinuses flare up when drinking red wine. I don't know if it's a reaction to the sulfites or tannins or what have you. But I have had a couple of buddies who get clogged sinuses as soon as they start drinking red wine (though it doesn't stop them).

If you want to try a simple test, buy some over the counter Claritin 24-hour dissolving tablets. Then drink wine later that day. If you don't have the problem again it might be an indication that it's a minor allergy. Since you're predisposed to ear fullness, even a small amount of inflammation will bother you more than most.
