I posted this on FB, but feel it should be shouted from the roof tops... I know only a few will acknowledge my post as per usual, but at least the counter will show you were curious enough to stop and take a look. :)

    Happy Holidays to All...

Black Friday, Cyber Monday, blatant irresponsible screaming ads “BUY, BUY, BUY” causing mass hysteria of lunatic shoppers 2 gather @ all hours discarding their sensible values 4 the almighty buck/bargain! What have we become 2 b overtaken with the worshiping of this madness & neglect the “reason 4 the season?” Hunger, shelter, clothing, protection, freedom & jobs are unknown worldwide, yet a day of Thanksgiving has given away 2 a day of strategic planning 4 the “gold.” Violence 2 gain this “gold” without a care 4 another’s safety or well-being is a sad price 2 pay 4 the prize @ hand. At least 3 major holidays occur in Dec., 2 based on faith, another on heritage… again, I ask, “Reason for the Season?” If we lose sight of this, we have lost the core 2 our centers. There is NO excuse 4 this “Retail/Manufacturing/Advertising/Individual mayhem. Give thanks 4 what u have, help others & remember the “core of your center.”

I don't compulsively or voraciously shop during the year so the holidays are really no different. I can't remember the last time any of my kids said, "Buy me that" or "I want that."

On the other hand, the economy and many jobs cannot be supported unless consumers spend money and buy. Think of all the stores that fold and people who are let off because business ran aground due to not enough sales.

It's a double edged sword so all I can say is...shop wisely, support your economy and curb your greed.

Saw on the news that some woman, somewhere, pulled out a can of mace and started hosing down her competitors for some bargain. Crazy man......

Crazy people will take any opportunity afforded them.
I mean really, who carries mace in a department store?
Some people will go nuts to save a few bucks. Some people will get caught up in the excitement of it all. Some people will have to work crazy hours and be grumpy and complain about the masses. At least THEY have jobs.
Some people won't be into the commercialism the season brings with it, and stay to the spiritual aspect.

If you commit a criminal offense, you should be arrested.

    LIVE AND LET LIVE!

You are so right, Gina. Same way some post with their green lights on and others post with their green lights off.

DizzyAJ - you provide good food for thought, as usual.

Stax of Wax - I am curious to know what the woman desired so badly that she had to pull out a can of mace and spray people

You can call me Stax, or you can call me Wax, or you can call me Fax, or just plain Max. ;D Here's the link to a CNN story about the mace spraying woman... http://www.cnn.com/2011/11/26/us/california-pepper-spray-suspect/index.html?hpt=hp_t3

What could I possibly desire (that is sold in a store) so badly that would make me spray mace on random people around me? Hmm...

It depends on the neighborhood one lives in or the hours one keeps or the crime rate in a particular part of a city.

Better a can of pepper spray than a gun, I say. Imagine the damage if the woman in the CNN link had pulled out a gun and started shooting so she could buy her marked down videogame. Yikes!

I suppose, Intrepid. It's still a foreign concept to me.

Same here, Rose. We are lucky we've never had to live in places or find ourselves in situations where we'd need to defend ourselves against certain types/levels of violence.

One more thing to be thankful for.

I agree but I think it's more than luck. It's an attitude /culture/mindset as well.

I better quit as I think this is taking the thread off topic.

I shopped online for a particular item, looking for the lowest price.
I found it at the Wal-Mart site!!! I got so excited!!!!

Then I noticed it stated that it was available online only.....and that it was no longer available online?????????

I called the store and they stated that it was an online offer only..... ???

    I didn't get it.

    Sigh

After the exterminator left yesterday I had to wait 4 hours before I could get back in to my apartment. Then it took me about an hour to put things back where I originally left them.It was then early in the afternoon and not realizing it was Black Friday I headed on over to Nordstrom's in the Stanford Shopping Center.Surprisingly they weren't very crowded. When I got home there was a $10 discount card from Victoria's Secret in the mail.I'll give this to Amy my daughter. They previously sent me their catalogue.Lovely looking girls.

I bought a crockpot. It just happened to be on Black Friday but I really needed one. I made a roast that was so yummy and healthy.

I don't shop at Victoria's Secret. I find their stuff terribly uncomfortable :D Hope your daughter enjoys her gift card.
