Well at work, I sing "Blame it on the Bossa Nova" with the guitar for my students. The song was copyrighted in 1962. Now get this. My fiancee, her family, and I went to a Karaoke thing last Friday night, and just for shits and giggles, I thought I'd see if that song was on the list. Lo and behold, it was. Now mind you, the sheet music has lyrics from the male's point of view, meeting a girl and marrying her. And I never heard the recorded version of it.

So I tell the lady in charge of the Karaoke thing...hey could you do "Blame it on the Bossa Nova" in the key of C? She looked at me kind of funny, and I thought it was because she was thinking if she could do it in that key. Come to find out, I begin singing the song, and the lyrics on display are: "I was at a dance...when he caught my eye..." "Blame it on the Bossa Nova...that he did so well"...."Now that little boy, is my groom to be"....LMAO

I made the adaptations while I was singing, but I must admit it was a pretty hilarious experience, and then my fiancee jokingly asked me if there was something she needed to know.

    LOL!!!

Tomorrow's a sad day...... we lay my brother to rest with his memorial service and inurnment. Today has been very reflective for me, just been youtubing some, listening to music, distracting myself. I'm making this a happy day, music turns my life, sometimes I forget that.
Occurred to me to search for some old favs, these are a couple. Don't know if anyone likes '70's rock, I do, and Ted Nugent's music was a part of my learning the bass. Forget his politics, just enjoy the tunes!

I love the bass line in Stranglehold, very seductive and mesmerizing......., the lead guitar break isn't too shabby either......

I'm sorry to hear about your brother. May he rest in peace.

I like the Nuge as a guitarist.

Just youtubing a bit today. One of my alltime favorite bands is Grand Funk. The bass player, Mel Schacher, was one of the bassists that I learned from when I became a young bassist. The combination of Don Brewer's baritone voice and Mark Farner's tenor is excellent. And Brewer.... the energizer bunny of rock drummers, he's one of the best all time rock drummers and doesn't get the acclaim that some do.
Anyway, why GFR is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame escapes me. They are the quintessential "American Band", and it's just wrong they aren't in the Hall.

2 links here, same song. First is 1998, it's rough footage of "Some Kind of Wonderful". What caught my eye is the little girl from the crowd that Mark is holding while singing. Must be about 4? She shyly sings along some, and look what happens at exactly 2:00! If that don't make ya smile, ya ain't human. In the comments below the video, the girl, Lauren, now 14, posts a comment as well as her mother.
And, this video also has a link to the petition to add GFR to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Second link is also "Some Kind of Wonderful", just a short version on the show "Crook and Chase". Just Mark and Don and a little pickin' and grinnin'. You can tell Don is a fun guy, would love to meet both of them. Makes me sound like a groupie doesn't it? lol
