A doctor wrote my script for Serc..does anyone else order on-line? We don't have any compounding pharmacies in my area.

I have not taken Serc, but I did get a presciption last year for it. I found a compounding pharmacy in my area and he made it for me, but I have been afraid to take it :-\ If you start taking it, let me know how it works for you.

I have been using Serc for about a year and I think it works. MM is so random it is hard to tell for sure as I may be experiencing remission. .

    Just thought i'd say .....

I react in a bad way to just about every drug I take, and to me, serc was one of the most benine drugs I've taken. I've had plenty of worse experiences from OTC's

It did nothing for me though, but it wasn't a bad experience. I was extremely anxious before taking it too.

I've been taking serc for over eight years, daily 4 times a day. I have no side effects and I know it helps, cause if I forget to take it, I pay.

I've been taking serc (aka Betahistine ) 3 times a day now for almost two weeks. I can't tell much of a difference yet. I'm lucky in that a pharmacy in my area compounds it. Let's hope that we see a difference in it soon. Hope it works for you.

Andrea; just ordered the Serc this week, mailed in the check yesterday. They don't take credit/debit and it takes 3 weeks to process. Maybe it will be my early Christmas present miracle!

WHAT ARE SOME OF THESE DOCTORS DOING ?

Today I visited my ENT . After careful examination and questioning he gave me the prescription .

1 ) SERC 3 times a day ( I was taking SERC before visiting him with good results ) therefore he said I should continue it.

    2 ) ZYRTEC (ceti rizine 10 mg ) 2 times a day .

    3) DIURETIC - 1 time a day.

I asked him , as far as I know one is antihistamine and the other is histamine analogue ,
He smiled strangely as he wanted to say I am the doctor and not you.

OK I will try the prescription for one or two days to see the result .

WELL ‘HE IS THE DOC NOT ME ‘ and I am the guinea pig .

My Doc prescribes serc for me to I have been on it for 2 years. Although I still have virtigo, it is no where near as severe as it was. I take 1- 16mg tablet three time a day and if it turns into a bad day I can take as many as six a day. I have not had any side effects from it other than a mild headache but not all the time. I know that it is not readily available in US but there are ways around it like every has said, I live in Canada so I don;t have that problem. I haven't tried the other drug treatments so I have nothing to compare to. My Doc and my ENT both tell me it is the best thing for MM.
    Hope this helps.

Good luck to you Toni - I hope the Serc really helps.
It sure has helped me....a great medication. Nasty on the stomach though so if you're not already aware, be careful to take it with plenty of food. Even then I had problems so my doc put me on Pantaloc (a stomach med) to help. It sure is well worth it to me though - such a difference when I'm on it compared to off. Hope helps you just as much.

    All the best,
    Amethyst

    This is a well-known paradox.
True, Serc is a histamine agonist and Zyrtec an antihistamine. However, it is supposed not to work in the same place: most antihistamines never reach the inner ear and do their job in your throat, maybe your middle ear and other places where you might have infections or allergy problems. Serc is thought to improve blood circulation in your inner ear.
Actually the Serc story is even more complex because of the intricacies of histamine mechanism. I'll leave it here...
(Just for fun, see what happens when you google for "histamine signalling".)

BTW, I hate it when doctors act like that. If a car mechanic arrogantly says that I am too stupid to understand what he has been doing to my car, he is not going to see me another time. But doctors can get away with that attitude.

It is true to some extent that we are guinea pigs for the docs, given that they understand so little and are just as curious as we are to see if and how the treatment is going to work this time...

Hi Toni- I've been taking Serc for nearly 20 years and am currently on 24mgs 3 times a day and I've never had a problem with it. My dosage was increased just a month ago, I was on 16mgs. 3 times a day but the ugly beast decided it wanted to visit me and liked it here so much it doesn't want to leave. I wouldn't want to be without it. I'd say try it and see how you do on it. Loretta
