    Dear All,
It was in 2002 that I was diagnosed with Menieres.

I suffered for 2 years until I chanced upon a sitethat mentioned that
for some people wheat gluten is hard to digest and that causes phlegm to accumalate in the ear causing Menieres.

I immediately removed all gluten from my diet (including almonds)

The result was dramatic! I was also on a diet with no spices
    I took Vitamin C , Calcium Magnesium , and Vitamin E supplements
    (from Solgar)

Guys Menieres is curable - I started with accupuncture and chinese medicines. then went onto macrobiotic strict with no gluten. once my system was cleansed of stored up mucus, the tinnitus went away.

I also took some homeopathic medicines. These days the tinnitus flares up only when I overdo on salt. Otherwise it is very very mild, and I take no medicines for it !!!

Great to hear! You'll find quite a few posters have also gone gluten free with similar results.

It's always nice to hear a success story, thanks for sharing! :)

it is wonderful that things have worked so well for you. Beware of making a blanket statement that the disease is curable. Some of us have tried the no-gluten way to little or no effect on the disease. Others have had better luck and some considerable improvement. A cure would be that all symptoms cease.

I am also please to hear you are cured. However I agree with Vicki, be careful saying that MM is curable. Many disorders and illnesses mimic the symptoms of MM and some of those are curable. However true MM itself is a destructive disorder and most probably isn't curable.

I was diagnosed with MM but after lots of research went down the atlas subluxation route as I have suffered 2 bad whiplash injuries. A combination of osteopathy and chiropractic appeared to cure me for 2 years. I have recently had vertigo again but again think it's neck related as I think the adjustments made may have slipped again due to the way I sleep.

It would be interesting to know what the symptoms were that you had.

Welcome Snow, its good to hear that you have cured yourself of MM. However not knowing much about you I'm wondering if MM is in fact what you had and not something else that mimics MM.

    Good luck / Larry

Hi Snow! Great news. What would be really helpful is if you would detail your symptoms. Even among those of us who have been diagnosed by a specialist, we find our symptoms are often somewhat different. And not surprisingly different things seem to cure us. Knowing exactly what your symptoms were like and how long after you started the gluten free diet they went away would help the next person.

Cured? if it is cured why are you still having symptoms?

I do disagree with the notion that a cure means all symptoms cease though. Sometimes a disease can do permanent damage. The pathogen or cause may be found and and future damage may be prevented and some fluctuating symptoms may be halted but it is possible that some permanent damage may remain. I think this would be true of any disease or disorder and I do not see why MM would be an exception. We see this often with diseases don't we?

Because his tinnitus is a direct result to the damage sustained on his inner ear hair cells from his repeated attacks of meniere's prior to being cured. Once damage is dome to these hair cells, it is ireversible and the tinnitus remains forever, albeit to a lesser extent.

Congratulations on being cured my friend!

Snow, congrats and I believe all you say with diet and getting rid of the mucus. I rid myself of my tinnitus on a similiar diet. Great to hear of your success! You are a breath of fresh air on this forum.

...Congratulations, I too have had great success by eliminating Gluten. (Utellado- gluten is wheat, oats, rye, and barley). However, I was still getting vertigo attacks from hypoglycemia and finally controlled the hypoglycemia by following the Glycemic Index. www.glycemicindex.com.
...Since you and I both had our symptoms triggered by gluten then you may also find that hypoglycemia might also trigger your symptoms later on. Just giving a heads up in case it happens. Many of us in our middle age years developed metabolic syndrome which caused the hypoglycemia and which is controlled by the glycemic index.
...So in case your interested, you can google some of the things I mentioned. But again congratulations.

..One thing I would like to mention to the group is that while gluten is the most common food that triggers menieres symptoms, it could be any food that your allergic too. If your not allergic to any food then your not going to see any effect. One big clue in my case was the vertigo right after eating. If you see this type of trend, that a pretty good indication. However, there have been those helped by eliminating gluten that didn't see results for a few weeks. In my case I saw a dramatic difference in 3 days of going gluten free.

Snow, could you please let us know what areas the acupuncturist/chinese medicine specialist was working with? When I went, they were talking a lot about liver chi.

As with many others, I am a bit uncomfortable with the word "cure" also. I'm very excited for you in finding something that worked for you!

From what I've seen and read, there are a number of possibilities as to why we get meniere's symptoms, and that knowledge would have a big part in what brings us relief individually. You found what brought on your symptoms, and you remedied it. Excellent! May we all be so lucky. Thank you for sharing your experience.

there's a lot of disorders that mimic Meniere's Disease and people do find relief and cures for them...

I am very happy you've found a cure for your conditions/symptoms...you are blessed...thank you for sharing your success...I prefer homeopathic medicines as well

    Dear all,
I eat sorghum flour made flat bread, rice, beans, vegetables - I eat salt amount which normal people use. It is only when I eat outside food that is way too high in sodium, that I get tinnitus, but that also goes away soon.
The best part is I do not take any medication now.
Rick is right - it is eliminating food u are alergic to that does the trick. but also I do not use any milk products, dairy also has mucus forming tendency. I cant digest milk.
And yes, glycemic index is another thing to be careful about.
My accupuncturist wanted to strengthen my kidney, and used to treat me for that.

My symptoms were - typical drop in hearing at some frequencies in my right ear,
The doc showed me the graph and said that it is typical of meneires.
constant loud ringing in right ear and then spead to left, insomnia, extreme fatigue, extreme sensitivity to cell phone ringing, noise made by machines (computers) - they used to echo, or create same noise in my ear, and drive me crazy.
Thankfully my doctor diagnosed it quickly.
    I did not get vertigo.
now I am able to use a computer also.

I am studying macrobiotics counselling from a school in Oroville , California. It is a powreful way to heal, if you are strong person.

Well snow, I am afraid I have to tell you that without vertgo, you did not have meniere's.

I am glad your hearing loss and tinnitus are better, though.

    Hi and welcome.

I'm with Nassman on this one, in that if you did not ever get vertigo, you probably don't have Meniere's. Maybe a food allergy to gluten that was causing similar symptoms? Either way, glad you're doing much better these days!

I had menieres...yes, 3 otos said had it! I had all of the symtoms, except the hearing loss, so the next oto I went to said I didn't have it as I had no hearing loss. It is sooo confusing, as I have the fullness in my right ear...spin attacks...constant ringing and balance issues! The last oto said I showed no activity at all, in my right inner ear? But, I don't have menieres???
A "cure" would be nice...if only I knew what I was trying to cure???

Its always a positive to hear people are doing well and believe they are indeed free from this beast, but the word cure is never something I would personally use despite how long the remission is.

Its possible you had the initial symptoms of Menieres but it fortunately didn’t progress any further. I personally didn’t experience Vertigo until after 12 months of the other MM symptoms, so I do believe its possible you may encounter a mild form of the condition without the Vertigo kicking in.
