I'm not sure if this had been posted or not, but I wanted to make sure folks knew about a film I just saw on HBO. Hear and Now is a beautifully-done, incredibly insightful documentary made by a young woman whose parents, both born deaf, made the decision at the age of 65 to have cochlear implants. It follows them through the days leading up to, and the months following their surgeries, with the highs (hearing music for the first time) and the lows (dizziness, not being able to understand speech). More than anything it is a poignant love story about her parents, two inspiring people, living their life before sound, and after sound.
