Cnn.com headline story now says 106,000 signed up, more in process. This is similar to the pattern when romneycare was introduced in Mass. The people who cant get individual health insurance under the old system, like me and most of us, are the first to sign up. The young and healthy people wait til the last minute, all the more so with the website glitches. I just hope people wont bury the patient alive. We need access to health insurance. I know, i struggled in the individual market for a decade and paid $50,000 + over that time for my policy and still had to pray that company didnt quit offering individual policies because no one else would take me. Even though i am now medicare eligible, i have younger relatives with diabetes, stroke etc who will not be able to get any -ANY- health insurance if people decide to trash the ACA because it wasnt perfect on day one. If one has insurance through their employer, they have no idea what it is like to have to buy their own til that fateful day when they dont have that job any more. I hope people dont shoot themselves in the foot over this just because they can.

Yes, 106,000 have signed up and created an account but have they actually bought insurance? In California the people i talk to everyday say their main concern is not only price but their private and personal information being compromised and stolen as many say it is not safe and can be easily hacked.

I sure hope they fix it and the prices are lowered because many of people including myself would not be able to afford some of the plans and especially the deductibles. My friend signed up and his deductible is like $ 6,000.00

I sure hope the younger people sign up and decide not to just pay the 95.00 fine, there is a lot riding on this for so many people. We all need affordable healthcare.

Yes, that is the number who have signed up and bought insurance. A small number which hopefully will grow. A much higher number of applications are in the 'works'.

Please check the actual price you will pay and see if you are eleigible for . There are catastrophic only policies avaiable that are very cheap on the exchange for a very low premium. This is what some peopl want. There are also excellent policies available which cost more and give very good coverage. Please check out YOUR situation on the actual exchange before you pass judgment. A lot of what people say is not accurate. Also anything negative people experience is blamed on obamacare now even if it has nothing to do with it. For instance, at my clinic, for the last year they have been handing out various questionaires. You dont have to fill it out but they would like you too. Today i heard an elderly man tell his wife this (the questionaire) is that obama care stuff. It had nothing to do with obama care but i am sure he will go home and tell all his friends of the new terrible thing obama care was forcing him to do.

But mainly, do not give up your chance to have a right to quality health insurance because of what 'everybody' is saying.

I agree with you. The whole system is messed up. Sad to know that a life is worth so little in a country that prides itself on being so advanced.

It's a start. We can work to make it better or we can say it's not good enough and go back to no insurance for children and adults with pre existing conditions etc etc.

Blah Blah Blah. It's 2013. This crap shouldn't even be happening. Yeah, you work to make it better. It's not going to. This is as good as it's going to get with some minor tweaking. People die and nobody gives a crap. Most of us are hoarders when it comes to our money.

Well, in this country, we get what we decide we want. No king is going to descend on the country and give us anything. If people dont think we deserve health care we wont have it. It's all up to the people. If they want it, they will get it. If you dont want it to happen, the best thing to do is tell people they are helpless, it will never work, nothing ever does, blah blah blah.

But I am not sure why you think there will not be any incremental improvements. There were with medicare, social security and pretty much everything else. That is our history. I actually do remember when medicare started. It was doomed to failure except it didnt fail, it became a valued program that old people depend on for health care and middle aged people depend on to take care of their parents.

I am sure there are faults that can be found. Why not fix them? No one else is going to do it for us.

this is very true. My hopes were so high for once in my life and it just seems that at every step of the way i have been let down and lied to on so many levels about so many issues over the last 6 years that i almost regret giving my tme to volunteer and campaign and get involved to make a difference. Many here in California that i talk to share much of the same sentiment as what you say in the above quote. Blah Blah Blah seems to be the perfect antidote to whater they say they are going to do.

Just keep in mind which policies will be better for you. Not which candidate is perfect. None are. None ever will be. But which policies the people will support determine whether we have things like social security, medicare and health coverage or not. We are the ones who will pay if we just tune out because we got disappointed. No one else, us.

I think a lot of people are confused because they are not factoring in the subsidies they will receive from the government. They see the sticker price of the insurance and don't understand that, based on their income, it might cost much less. They are also confused about the penalty. $95 or 1% of their income for the first year. Eventually the penalty will increase. It is complex and I think that is what is preventing many people from enrolling and scaring them off. This is a huge step. To succeed, it must evolve just like Medicare did.

I've always been in favor of a one-payor system. We already have it in place (Medicare.) Insurance companies are nothing more than private middlemen operating for a profit. But that gets political and we can't have that here.

What the…………. I nearly spat my cup of tea all over the screen when I read your health care prices……………… are you serious???????????????????? $1700 a month. WTF is that all about. I thought I had it bad paying $285 a month with a $500 once a year excess payment for hospital admissions and some public hospitals here pay that for you so they can claim more using your insurance instead of public health. Wow!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm happy with my medical insurance.I have an HMO,Kaiser Permanente Medicare Advantage plan. All doctor services are under one roof. When I had my TKR my surgery co-pay cost me $50.The room was $125 per day for just a 2 day stay.Drugs like Vicoden were minimal cost.Visits to the orthopedist for removing the staples were just $5.
When I was getting allergy shots at Kaiser I was paying $3.for an allergy shot.To see the allergist it was just $5.Sometimes though if certain drugs are not in their plan I pay plenty. For example,I have erectile disfunction. My GP prescribed Levitra 20mgs.,4 tablets cost me $75 and change. He has since replaced that prescription with Sildenafil Citrate tablets 20mgs.,12 tablets cost me $14.Three tablets to be taken 1 hour before sexual activity.
