I'm 99% sure that the vasculitis is a die-off reaction as the dead yeast are "festered" from the body. I've had several biopsies. One was forwarded to the Mayo clinic because the local lab couldn't figure it out. Mayo couldn't figure it out either Another lab found no active bacterial component. I have posted pictures, I'll post them again later. I'll try to dig up the biopsy lab reports too.

Yes, it could be auto-immune, but I see it a more proof that auto-immune might really be caused by the systemic sub-clinical infection. Which is why I suggest that anyone with AI diseases investigate the possibility of a fungal or bacterial (Lyme) infection. IE - kd68 isn't the cause, it's a symptom.

I suspect that the Herx joint pain, if investigated further, would be seen as rheumatoid arthritis. I wonder if I'd be better off, doctor and insurance wise, if I was diagnosed as having AI? Probably not as they'd want to give me steroids which would be the worst thing to take for a systemic infection. The dermatologist I was was adamant that I take antibiotics for the vasculitis. That would have been the other worst thing to take for a fungal infection.

My main worry is the liver numbers, and the lung inflammation. The liver numbers we'll find out about today (I'll post the numbers later). But I take coumadin because of a pulmonary embolism of unknown origin I had a few years ago. I now suspect (just a gut feeling) that the PE was caused by fungal issues in my lungs. So, the lung inflammation and issues after attacking the biofilms is my biggest concern. At least until the lungs clear up, I'm glad I'm still taking the coumadin.

I'm not in an HBO, but I do have a "Cadillac" health plan with access to all of the best trained doctors I need. Some are knuckleheads. A few have been gems.

Liver numbers are still a little elevated, but closer to normal than two weeks ago - and my herx is better than two weeks ago, so that reinforces the idea that the high liver numbers were a sign of the herx. I'll get printouts later and post the results tonight.

Here are my last 3 liver panels. The bold values are abnormally high. The 12/15/2010 was when I was taking fluconozole & enzymes. 2/4/2011 - I had been off fluconazole for six weeks, but had just stopped the enzymes. I was herxing big-time. The 2/22/2011 was four weeks after stopping the enzymes.

    12/15/2010 2/4/2011 2/22/2011
    ALT 47 73 44
    GGT 66 85 67

My cholesterol numbers are high too, but they've been high for years.

Of course, I have no idea what ALT and GGT are, but I'll look them up later.

Papajoe, I hope those numbers continue to fall as the herx reaction from your supplements subside. You two seem to really be in touch with your body's and what or what not you can eat to keep the candida in check. I feel like a real neophyte here. But I am learning thanks to you two.

The positive reaction to Kd68. Never thought of it as a reaction to a potential fungi that might be avoidable. I just though my blood was positive for it and that was that. Kinda like HTLV II. I have thought that is a blood disorder that can't be gotten rid of. All my reading on it points to that, but do you, either of you think that it too (even in your wildest imagination) could be a fungal or systemic issue that can be taken care of though supplements and proper diet?

I've always suspected that my AI issues were founded at the blood disorder level but, maybe it's not... I am having a really bad day to day. My stomach is shooting sharp pains and I can't hardly walk because of it (I am making myself walk because I don't want to stay in bed all day). Now, I do kow why it hurts so much. My grandson is here and yesterday after my doctor's appointment and getting some blood drawn, I stopped at Jack-in-the-box and bought us a couple of breakfast thingies. I did not used to have this type of reaction before but because my body is getting used to the 'good' food and the pobiotics, it really is letting me know just what it will and will not accept!

I did go to a Rheumy and she drew some blood and diagnosed me with fibromyalgia. That's it, her job is done. No follow-up appointments or anything (my fault?). I guess I just don't know the right questions to ask. Guess maybe I just don't know what all Rhemuys can do. I probably should have talked to her about the blood disorder but it seems like none of the specialists I go to are really interested in it. It's an autoimmune blood disorder for crying out loud, and they're diagnosing me with autoimmune issues!! I don't get it. It seems so simple to me. But I've stopped talking about it with doctors... There's just not enough information for them to run with it.

Thanks Holly. I expect it will be normal on the next test in four weeks. I'm planning to start another round of fluconozole and enzymes in April or May. I'll see my doc between now and then and discuss it with him first, but I plan to take one week of fluconozole 1/day and two weeks of 1/day enzyme capsules. Hopefully that will limit the next around of Herx.

I certainly don't claim to know the secret of AI issues - but a lot of what I see in my own symptoms could be described as either fungal issues or allergy issues or migraine issues or AI issues depending on what kind of doctor you ask. The old saying that everything looks like a nail when you've got a hammer applies.

But what I have favorite theory (actually more of a gut feeling) that if you have a massive sub-clinical infection (Lyme, Fungal, ?) that it can stress the immune system to the point where it breaks down and no longer function properly. An improper immune system is one that doesn't attack bad bugs when it should, but even more important, the immune system is not supposed to attack you. Any natural system will break down if over-stressed. I'm sure genetic differences explain the differences in the way it effects different people.

It wouldn't surprise me if kd68 (and other AI markers) are malformed proteins created by a stressed immune system.

Some things I wonder about are whether you can stress the immune system to the point where it can't repair itself when the stress is removed (ie, you stay AI after you cure the cause).

A sub-clinical infection is one that doesn't show up in standard tests and doesn't have any obvious symptoms. In my case, over the years I would get slightly elevated liver numbers every few years, and an ultrasound one time showed a slightly fatty liver. In hind sight these might have been signs of an infection, but they were never often enough or severe enough to concern the doctors.

Fungi are known to be able to suppress the immune system, meaning they can spread through out the body without triggering an immune reaction. No immune reaction, no obvious symptoms. A number of bacteria (Lyme disease & others) can do it as well. When they do this, they essentially become parasites, living off of you. Again, genetics probably determines how your body reacts to this.

I'm noticing a real difference in my body right now...My grandson is staying here for a week. Needless to say the meals have to be served. He's a bit of a junk food junkie and so I indulge him more than I should. The problem is, I've been eating some of that stuff too. It's easy and I got lazy. Anyway, I'm feeling the difference in my body. When he came the last time the same thing happened but I didn't relate it very well. This time, it's really kickin my butt. So, I've said to him, we're on our own for dinner tonite (he's fifteen) so eat what you can find or fix. Today, I'm still not feeling right but it'll take longer to get rid of the bad stuff than it took to put it there. Anyway, I'm back on the right path and he goes home tomorrow. Love him to death but I really need to control myself better. The next time, I'll know from the start and just order the one bad thing for him and fix one good thing for me. I can't expect him to change his eating habits to fit mine but I can be better at controlling what goes into my mouth...

The self-awareness you're showing will help you in the long run. When he goes home, toss the junk food :D

    Out with the garbage!! ;)

Hey, PapaJ, I noticed some little red marks (sores?) on my right upper arm and upper leg while taking a shower yesterday. Is it possible it could be some kind of herx reaction? I haven't noticed it before... It looks kinda like the picture you showed on yourself a while back. I don't expect a diagnosis or anything - just want to know if it might be possible.

It could certainly be, but see your doctor if it gets worse or won't go away.

I'm keeping an eye on it. I already go to a dermatologist so I'm in the right arena for it if it gets worse or anything... Thanks
