"Nice" Mailing List for Coping with Meniere's Disease
Another
freebie from Ray Hines and Dreamstates
Technologies, Inc., hosts of MENIERES.ORG -- a mailing list devoted
exclusively to strategies for coping with Meniere's Disease, called the
Coping-List Group (or CLG). Anyone who needs or has or is interested in
coping strategies is invited to subscribe. This mailing list is semi-moderated,
meaning that while not every message will be screened, the moderator will
intervene if the subject matter becomes off topic or unproductive. Flames
and insults are not permitted on this "nice" mailing list. You are welcome
to "lurk" (subscribe and read messages from the group without sending messages
to the group) or participate, as you prefer. To subscribe, send email to
coping@menieres.org,
and type "subscribe" (without the quotes) in the subject or body
of the message. (To unsubscribe: send email to coping-list-request@menieres.org,
and type "unsubscribe" (spelled correctly) (without the quotes)
in the subject or body of the message.) The links below will open your
email software (if it is running) with the correct information.

Digest form now available. You may now
subscribe to a CLG digest instead of individual messages. The digest comes
out about twice a day. Each digest contains the full text of messages posted
since the last digest. To join the digest, first unsubscribe to the individual
list (if you are subscribed), and then send email to coping-digest@menieres.org
with the word "subscribe" (without the quotes) in the subject or
the text of the message. To unsubscribe, send email to coping-digest-list-request@menieres.org,

What's a Mailing List?
A mailing list is a group of people who communicate using e-mail. First, someone has to host the mailing list with a host site that is hooked into the Internet. In our case, the host site is at MENIERES.ORG. Then, someone has to provide the software to operate the mailing list. This has been done at MENIERES.ORG. Mailing lists usually have at least a general topic. In our case, the topic is "coping with having Meniere's Disease." On our mailing list, only subscribers may post messages. On our mailing list, when you subscribe, we email you a notice about the mailing list, including its rules, and tell you how to unsubscribe in case you were subscribed by some accident or you (now or later) change your mind for some reason. After that, you may email a post (also called message) to the address at MENIERES.ORG that we provide to you. When the post is received at MENIERES.ORG, it is remailed to everyone who has subscribed (including yourself). Other subscribers who read your message can post a comment by replying by email to the address at MENIERES.ORG, where the reply is remailed to everyone who is subscribed. In this way, conversations can be carried on over the Internet.
Some mailing lists are moderated, meaning that a moderator reads every piece of email before it is remailed from the host site to all subscribers. The moderator screens for content and relevancy. Other mailing lists are unmoderated, where there is no screening, perhaps no rules, and in any event little or no enforcement of rules. Our list is semi-moderated. Our moderator will intervene only after a message has been posted that violates our simple rules, shown below. On our list, while we encourage you to participate, you are welcome to "lurk" by only reading messages and posting nothing. On many mailing lists, including ours, you may choose to receive only one message a day, which is a compilation of all messages. The one message a day is called a "digest," but it is a compilation, not a summary. Digests contain the complete text of all messages.
Simple Rules for the Coping-List Group (CLG)
(1) Please make sure that you unsubscribe from this mailing list *before* you set your email program to "away" or "vacation" mode because it will result in an infinite email loop whenever your email program responds automatically to messages received from us, sending it right on back, which our list will respond to, and so on and on. In general, never, ever, set your email program to automatically respond to messages whenever you're on a mailing list. It'll save us untold hassles.
(2) Please do us the courtesy of unsubscribing from this list first if you intend to cancel or move your current email account.
(3) It is forbidden to *flame* or insult anyone on our mailing lists. We're all here to survive TOGETHER in a friendly and caring atmosphere, and a hostile environment only makes things worse. If you find something that offends you, just delete the message, or if you feel strongly about it, email the offender *privately*, or send us email with your complaint to solari@gte.net.
(4) Please understand that all messages written in our mailing list are the opinions of those posting them, and that if you need a qualified medical opinion, please get one from a doctor -- we are not qualified to do so.
(5) Participate! :) Our mailing list isn't one without active participants, and we all love hearing from each other. Don't be shy -- we're all in the same boat as you are. [However, you are welcome to "lurk" (read but not post) if you feel more comfortable doing so; you may post at any time.]
